6 Best Day Trips from Luxembourg City

With free transportation, it would be silly not to take a day trip. Luxembourg is a small country with a lot of history a short train ride away. Some day trip ideas:

1. Clervaux

This small northern town boasts a lot historical of attractions. If you are interested in photography visit Clervaux Castle to see The Family of Man exhibit. This is the only photography exhibit is the only one on the UNESCO World Heritage list.

If American history is more your speed you can take a tour of parts of The Battle of the Bulge. Part of the battle took place just outside of the town. In the town, you can also see Clervaux GI Monument which is dedicated to the tens of thousands of American troops who fought in the battle.

2. Moselle Region

Moselle is the wine region of the county in the southeast corner of the country surrounding the Moselle River. Stop into the towns of Wormeldange, Remich, and Remerschen for wine tastings.

 

Just over 12 miles (20km) from Luxembourg City you can experience the luscious green vineyards that wind along the Moselle River. There are multiple opportunities to sample the wines of the region and take tours in different small towns.

3. Echternach

Founded in the Middle Ages, Echternach is the oldest town in Luxembourg which started with a Benedictine Abbey in 698 AD. This town has so much history, you can also see part of the old town wall as well as the remaining pillars of the Roman villa.

This town is the administrative capital of the Grand Est region and has served as an administrative capital for over 2,000 years. With all that prestige and money you know there are some amazing things to see.

5. Brussels, Belgium

For a bit of a longer trip head to Brussels. Hop on the train and relax while you are on your way to sample some delicious Belgian beers and a liege waffle. If you are only in Brussels for the day I’d recommend a walking tour and an afternoon drink on the Grand Place.
