Plane: Frankfurt-Hanh (this is the main international airport when flying from the US). Other cities that have airports are, Hamburg, Munich, Berlin, Dusseldorf, Cologne-Bonn, Stuttgart.
Train and bus:
Car: You can rent a car to self-drive your trip. An international driver’s license is not required to drive in Germany. However, if you plan in being in Germany for more than a few months obtaining a German driver’s license is required.
