Plane: The international airport, Keflavík, is located 45 minutes outside Reykjavik. This is the only international airport in the country.

*Tip: you can catch a bus from the Keflavík airport. You can buy a ticket at the airport once you arrive.

Public Transport: There is no train system. However, there is a connected bus system around the island. Strætó is the public bus system within Reykjavik and around the country. During the summer months, there is the Highland Bus which takes people to popular hiking destinations.

Car: You are not required to have an international driver’s license to rent a car or drive in Iceland.

Currency: Icelandic Króna. They use their own currency, however, they are in the EU

Tipping: VAT tax (service charge) is included in the price at most restaurants, bars, and cafes. If this is included it will be noted at the bottom of the menu. If you are happy with your service, you can round up by a few euros to give a tip.

Language: Icelandic. Most Icelanders speak fluent English. To graduate high school in Iceland you have to be fluent in four languages so you will likely be able to communicate with most people.
